Lidocaine-containing fillers such as Restylane-L are formulated with 0.3% lidocaine, which eases discomfort as the gel is placed. Map Before You Numb

Photograph and mark the lips first. Wiping the cream away can lift marker lines, so re-check your marks after cleansing.

Keep It Off the Wet Lip

Apply to the vermilion and perioral skin, not the inner mucosa. Ask patients not to lick their lips while it works.

Numb Cannula Entry Points

Using a cannula? Cover the entry points at the corners of the mouth or lateral lip as well as the body of the lip.

Apply

A thin, even layer on the vermilion and perioral skin. Keep it out of the mouth and leave it uncovered.

Wait ~15–20 min

Finish consent and set up your syringes while the BLT reaches working depth.

Remove & Inject

Wipe the cream off completely, prep the skin with antiseptic, re-check your marks and begin.

Lip Filler Numbing FAQ

Do I need numbing cream if the filler already contains lidocaine?

The lidocaine inside fillers such as Restylane-L works as the gel is placed. It doesn't cover the first puncture or each new entry point along the lip. A topical BLT applied beforehand covers those.

How long before lip filler should it be applied?

As a general guide, roughly 15 to 20 minutes before injecting, on clean, dry skin, then removed completely. Always follow your own clinical protocol for timing and application.

Can it go on the inner lip?

Apply it to the vermilion and perioral skin, and keep it off the wet inner lip and out of the mouth. Your protocol should set exactly where it goes.

Will removing the cream affect my markings?

It can. Wiping the cream away often lifts marker lines, so photograph the plan first and re-check your marks after cleansing.
